Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, on Monday in Abuja, called on Nigerians to assist Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), due to insurgency in North-East.
Dogara made the call at the inauguration of the Mobile Health Centre for IDPs in Wasa, in Abuja.
The speaker said it was only through compassion and love that the challenges faced by the IDPs could be solved.
“When you look at the faces of the IDPs and the non-provision of facilities that will cater for their immediate health needs, it will be obvious that it is a serious problem.
“Where you find healthy people, they can engage in the pursuit of happiness, wealth creation and generation,” he said.
Dogara said insurgency was an unfortunate occurrence and called on individuals, communities and the nation at large to ensure IDPs had facilities to care for their immediate needs.
Hon Johnson Agbonayinma, who was on the speaker’s entourage, described the pain and agony the IDPs were going through as unfortunate.
He also called for proactive measures to address the challenges of IDPs in the country.
Capt. Hosa Okunbo, Chairman, Vantage Habitat, said he was motivated to assist in building the health facility because the Speaker was passionate about the IDPs.
According to him, we will continue to do what we can to alleviate the sufferings of these people.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Speaker visited IDP camps in the FCT on Jan. 7 to distribute relief materials. (NAN)
