Disney+ releases trailer for ‘Rise’, Giannis and the Antetokounmpo family movie

2 Min Read

Disney+ has released the official trailer for “Rise”, a new movie about back-to-back NBA MVP winner, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and his family.

The trailer released on Tuesday shows the struggles of Giannis and his brothers, Thanasis, Kostas and Alex, as they made their way to NBA superstardom.

The streaming service said “Rise” would debut on June 24.

Giannis and Thanasis both star for the Milwaukee Bucks (NBA winners 2021), Kostas for Los Angeles Lakers (NBA winners 2020),  while Alex, the youngest, plays in the NBA G League.

According to the trailer, the trio of Giannis, Thanasis and Kostas are the first three brothers to win the NBA in its 76-year history.

Giannis and Thanasis are played by Uche and Ral Agada, who are real-life brothers.

The trailer shows as the brothers, spurred by their father, who is a Nigerian immigrant in Greece, take to playing street basketball amid hardship, including threats of deportation.

“Papa always talks about opportunity, What if this is it?” Giannis says in the trailer.

Their refusal to give up finally pays off as they find themselves playing on the big stage of the NBA and winning accolades.

Jaden Osimuwa and Elijah Shomanke play Kostas and Alex respectively, while Dayo Okeniyi and Yetide Badaki play their parents Charles and Vera.
