Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has condemned the burning of four constituency projects of the senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Sen. Dino Melaye, in the state capital, Lokoja by unidentified persons.
The governor made this known through his Director General, Media and Publicity, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, who was among a state government delegation to conduct an assessment tour of the burnt facility.
Fanwo said the Yahaya Bello administration had directed the police to ensure the arsonists are apprehending and made to face the full wrath of the law.
He added that such blatant acts of destruction do not belong to a civilised and democratic society.
The governor said that, “Irrespective of who is doing the project, the fund is from the government. So whether it is the executive or legislative, such projects should rather be applauded and not destroyed.”
The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Mrs Rosemary Osikoya, who was on the delegation, said evidence at the scenes of the incident showed that the acts were “masterminded” and “not accidental”.
She reiterated the Yahaya Bello administration’s commitment to fishing out the perpetrators.
According to her, “Exams are ongoing and this building is being used since January 2018. We expect that people will respect the sanctity of education.
“This act is masterminded and not accidental. The building were burnt including the chairs. If not for some serving Corps members around who tried to put out the flame, it would have been worse than this.
“We appeal to everybody to collaborate with us in education and not use it as a melting point for political sabotage. This is a dastard act; the state’s interest should be paramount rather than the individual political ego.”
