The senator representing Bayelsa East senatorial district in the National Assembly, Sen. Ben Murray-Bruce, has raised the alarm over the state of health of his Kogi West counterpart, Sen. Dino Melaye.
Melaye slumped on Friday as he entered the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team commander’s office at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad Headquarters, Abuja, where he was expected to answer questions on alleged attempted culpable homicide.
He was subsequently taken to Police hospital, Abuja, where he has been recuperating.
However, Murray-Bruce took to Twitter on Monday evening to accuse the police of holding Melaye in “unhealthy” conditions.
He further accused police authorities of ignoring advice from three consultants to move the ailing senator to another hospital for better medical care.
According to Murray-Bruce, Melaye’s blood pressure has spiked dangerously since being admitted to the hospital.
The Bayelsa senator noted that Melaye was being allegedly maltreated by the police for belonging to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Murray-Bruce said, “SOS: Senator Dino Melaye is being held in very unhealthy circumstances by the Nigerian Police Force. 3 consultants recommended he be moved but the police have ignored the report. His blood pressure is steadily on the rise and currently 150/110. Let’s recall Senator Dino Melaye is being treated this way because he is (a member of Peoples Democratic Party) PDP.”
