Woman wahala is the kind of wahala every politician does not need. Sadly if you’re Dino Melaye, that is a resounding problem for you as the 2015 election season approaches.
In Nigeria, women are eligible to vote, and there is a huge demographic of women voters that can make or mar any candidate’s ambition. Women tend to stick together on issues affecting them, their empathy levels are high so they are not easy to persuade or cajole like male voters when issues at stake center around domestic battery for instance. Dino Melaye’s estranged wife says the former lawmaker, who is contesting the Kogi West Senatorial District in 2015 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, is accustomed to beating and battering her.
The mother of three accused him of gun butting her with a semi-automatic pistol. She needed cosmetic surgery once to repair a broken nose. And that’s just a small fraction of her allegations. Her testimony could not only dent Dino’s ego but it would likely leave a bruise on his victory chances. In this case, all the opposition needs to do is campaign to promote the rights of women in Nigeria, and have a photo operation with his hopefully fully functional family. A cunning politician needn’t even hire campaign strategists for the seat if Hon. Melaye is the only candidate to beat. The following is a collection of her tweets on the matter posted to twitter recently:
A social media commentator and current events analyst, Seun Fakuade commenting on the matter, tweeted
Its safe to say the battle for the Senate seat come 2015 will be a tedious one for Mr. Melaye.
