Dino Melaye dares FG to arrest Bishop Kukah

Senator for Kogi West in the 8th Senate, Dino Melaye says any attempt to arrest or embarrass Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah over his Christmas message could spark outrage.

He gave the warning in a Monday night tweet after some persons took to Twitter to demand the cleric’s arrest.

Melaye accused the government of trying to scare everybody into silence while the country goes to ruins.

Recall that in his controversial message, Kukah accused President Muhammadu Buhari of nepotism and alleged that the president was presiding over a country with prospects of a failed state.

“Every honest Nigerian knows that there is no way any non-Northern Muslim President could have done a fraction of what President Buhari has done by his nepotism and gotten away with it.

“There would have been a military coup a long time ago or we would have been at war,” Kukah’s message read in part.

In a veiled reference to the message, Information Minister, Lai Mohammed said clerics “should refrain from stigmatising the leader they have never supported anyway, using well-worn and disproved allegations of nepotism or whatever”.

The minister accused Kukah of “calling for a violent overthrow of a democratically-elected government”.

Amid the back-and-forth, some Nigerians took to Twitter to demand Kukah’s arrest.

Reacting to such calls, Melaye wrote, “Arrest or try to embarrass Bishop Kukah and we will prove to you that Government is not owned by you but the people.

“They want to scare everybody. Ko jooooo (it’s not possible). Kill fear and speak the truth to power.”
