Chelsea striker and currently the top scorer in the EPL is set to be ruled out for three weeks owing to a hamstring injury and could miss the Blues fixtures with Crystal Palace, NK Maribo and Man Utd.
The Spanish striker joined his country for the Euro 2016 qualifiers where they suffered defeat to Slovakia but tromped over Luxembourg.
Diego Costa scored his first international goal in Spain’s victory over Luxembourg.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho refused to issue any statement pertaining to the possibility of Costa playing.
Here is what the Portuguese coach said:
“Yes. The Spanish team played in Luxembourg on Sunday. I gave them Diego, Fabregas and Azpilicueta.
“I gave them two days off, Monday and Tuesday, so they had to report to train on Wednesday at 3pm. And Diego was here Monday at 9am. So you can imagine how strong he was to be here at 9am on Monday.”
“I don’t lose my time contacting managers from national teams. In the past they used to contact me, but it is never my initiative to contact national team coaches.
“They have the power, we don’t have the power.
“Every Chelsea player who is selected at that time, we are happy that the players represent their country.”
Didier Drogba is still struggling with an ankle injury, which leaves Chelsea’s with conditioned option when choosing strikers for their clash against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
