Details of Shehu Sani’s release on bail

The senator for Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, Sen. Shehu Sani, has finally regained his freedom after a month in EFCC detention.

Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had on Monday admitted the defendant to N10 million bail with one surety in like sum. The judge further said that the surety must own a landed property within the Federal Capital Territory.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned the ex-senator on two counts of bribery and extortion before the court.

But Shehu Sani finally perfected his bail conditions and was released from EFCC custody on Thursday.

Photos of the senator made the rounds on social media after his release.

Recall that Alhaji Sani Dauda, the Chairman of ASD Motors, had petitioned the anti-graft agency, accusing the ex-senator of extorting $24,000 from him.

Dauda said that Shehu Sani collected the money from him under the guise of influencing the dropping of his (Dauda’s) ongoing case with the commission.

EFCC, which arrested Sani on December 31, 2019, said it took the action after the ex-senator refused to honour multiple invitations extended to him by the commission.

The commission’s investigators later searched his two homes in Abuja in search of evidence.
