Deadline day closed: Danny Welbeck is still on his way to Arsenal on a permanent deal

2 Min Read

Arsenal are close to signing Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck on a permanent deal.

The Gunners have missed out on Monaco’s Radamel Falcao, who is set to make a season-long loan move to Manchester United tonight.

Arsenal initially denied having any interest in Welbeck two hours ago  but they were secretly try to secure the player before the closing of the transfer window.

According to reports, Manchester United were hesitant about sending Welbeck to a top four rival and attempted to kill the deal. The 23-year old  wanted a permanent move and rejected the option of going out on loan.

Both teams came to an agreement late into the night and arsenal are trying to close the deal as we speak.

The London club has requested for an extension so that they can finalize an agreement with the England star. If all goes well, the deal should announced in a few hours.

With Olivier Giroud out till next year , Yaya Sanogo is the only other out-and-out striker available.  Arsenal had no choice but to go back to the transfer market  and buy another striker.

Welbeck is considered to be surplus to Van Gaal’s  squad, with the imminent arrival of Falcao confirmed that he needed to find a new club before the window closes. The England international attracted the likes of Sunderland and Tottenham but it looks like he is going to be a Gunner.

His teammate Javier Hernandez has successfully completed a loan move to Real Madrid and another teammate Shinji Kagawa has returned to Dortmund on a permanent deal.
