Dead Man Resurrects Minutes Before Autopsy

2 Min Read

A man in India narrowly escaped with his life after waking up minutes before an autopsy was done on him in the belief that he was dead.

The Police said they found the un-identified man passed out on the streets and with festering wounds on his body.

According to Ashok Dudhe, Deputy Commissioner of Mumbai Police, the homeless man was confirmed dead by a doctor at the Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital.

“As the autopsy was about to begin, the man awoke triggering chaos after which the doctors rushed to the room,” Dudhe said. “Then they snatched the death certificate from my staff and tore it up.”

The Dean of the Hospital, Dr. Suleman Merchant would have none of the policeman’s explanations however, accusing the police of creating a situation where the doctor could not properly do his job.

Merchant said that the policemen who found the man compelled the doctor to check him on the spot instead of at the hospital where the doctor could have the right tools to work, because they were busy with preparations for the visit of Prime Minister, Narenda Modi to the area.

“They forced my doctor to examine the patient on the roadside as they wanted to rush back to the prime minister’s security duty,” Merchant said. “Had the police allowed my staff to take the man indoors, they might have been able to do a better job.”

Responding to Merchant’s argument that the police were responsible for the doctor’s mistake, Dudhe said the argument was “ridiculous” and an “attempt to cover up their negligence”.

He said that an investigation on the incident has been concluded and the report has been forwarded to the police commissioner’s office for necessary action.
