Man United avenged their 3 – 0 defeat to Liverpool in March by scoring 3 goals and conceding none on Sunday’s fixture.
Liverpool’s defeat was a result of poor defending which Man United took advantage of, to put in three.
First, skipper Rooney opened scoring, then Juan Mata’s arguable offside goal gave United the confidence as they held on to a 2 – 0 lead in the first half.
Liverpool came close to equalising the goals several times, but brilliant saves from United’s David De Gea denied them a goal.
The Spaniard prevented goals from Raheem Sterling on four occasions, as well as, producing 3 brilliant stops to attempts from Mario Balotelli who came in as a substitute.
Van Persie secured the win for United with a goal in the 71 minute and they defended to make sure Liverpool didn’t get on the scoresheet for the rest of the match.
Manchester United have now won six games in a row and maintains third position with 8 points behind League leaders Chelsea.
