David Hundeyin Confirms Brief Marriage to Oge Obi, Responds to Allegations of Bias

2 Min Read

Investigative journalist David Hundeyin has addressed speculation surrounding his motivations for a story published in September 2022, revealing that he was briefly married to Oge Obi in 2021. In a statement shared on social media, Hundeyin confirmed their marriage took place in August 2021 and ended acrimoniously just a month later, in September 2021.

Hundeyin clarified that details of the breakup were already documented in his book, Breaking Point. He dismissed claims that his reporting was influenced by personal grievances, noting that the story in question was published over a year after their separation.

“The story was published in September 2022, over a year after our (very acrimonious) breakup,” Hundeyin wrote. “Some people are itching to discredit my story by claiming it was motivated by personal interest…but the facts of the matter state the exact opposite.”

He also addressed the recurring criticism of his work, comparing it to past accusations regarding his coverage of business magnate Aliko Dangote. Hundeyin highlighted the inconsistency of these critiques, pointing out that some accused him of being paid to undermine Dangote while others later alleged he was paid to support him.

“To the unclean, nothing can be clean,” he stated, implying that such allegations stem from the critics’ own biases. “We’re not the same.”
