David Beckham, a graduate of Manchester United’s youth academy and life-long fan of the club, is disappointed to see his fellow youth product Danny Welbeck leave.
Welbeck left Old Trafford on the final day of the transfer window in a £16 million move to rivals Arsenal.
Beckham praised the move for Arsenal, but he admitted he was sad to see the talented 23-year-old forward leave Old Trafford, per BBC Sport: “Arsenal have a very good, young talented English player. To see him leave Manchester United is sad. He had been there since he was eight and his heart was in Manchester.”
England Boss Roy Hodgson is also happy about the move because he sees Welbeck getting more on-pitch time at Arsenal.
“The biggest bonus is for Danny Welbeck,” Hodgson said. “When you are a player of his calibre and find yourself at United with competition for places, you don’t always get the starts you would like. He is going to a club where he will hopefully get more starts and playing time.”
