Daura Aided and Abetted Fugitives- Falana Reacts to DSS Chief’s Sack

2 Min Read

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has urged that the Federal government should look into the alleged human rights violations by the former DSS boss.

Lawal Daura was up until yesterday, the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) before being relieved of his duties by the acting President, Yemi Osinbajo.

During his 3-year tenure, Daura was accused of many human rights violations including the treatment of the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), El-Zakzaky, whom he ket detained despite a court order which compelled his release.

Speaking on the sack of Daura, Falana said in a short statement; “I had a running battle with Daura over the illegal detention of many detainees, including Zamfara legislators, two Indian nationals, politicians, student leaders, journalists etc.

“He prevented the Federal Government from complying with the orders of the court to release former National Security Adviser Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), Ibraheem Elzakzaky and his wife, Zeinab Elzakzaky.

“He housed the fugitive, Abdurasheed Maina. He countermanded the nominations of the President and colluded with fifth columnists to sabotage the democratic process. Allegations of human rights violations, abuse of office and corruption, which marred Daura’s tenure should be fully investigated.”

Meanwhile, the DSS has a new acting Director General in Matthew Seiyefa.

The new security chief met with the acting President yesterday along with Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) Ibrahim Magu and Chief of Staff to the President Abba Kyari.

Seiyefa has 34 years of experience and has served as the Director, Institute of Security Studies in Abuja. He also served as the State Director in Osun, Akwa Ibom, and Lagos States.

He was reported to have stepped into Osinbajo’s office at 4pm. He then spent the next hour in a meeting with the Acting president before exiting the office at around 5pm.
