The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district in the National Assembly, Sen. Shehu Sani, has described Nigeria as “tip toeing through a minefield”.
The outspoken senator said this in reaction to a statement by elder statesman and former Defence Minister, Lt.-Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma that Nigerians should rise up and defend themselves against killers.
Danjuma, a Jukun from Taraba state, had made the call at the maiden convocation ceremony of Taraba State University on Saturday.
Lamenting the killings in Taraba and other rural states in Nigeria, the former Chief of Army Staff urged indigenes of the affected areas to stop believing that the security forces will protect them but to defend themselves.
He described the security forces as ” biased”.
But the army had in a Sunday statement described Danjuma’s statement as “most unfortunate”.
However, Sani, who has frequently lamented killings in Southern Kaduna, urged those criticising Danjuma to let the elder statesman be.
In a Sunday afternoon message on his Facebook and Twitter pages, Sani said, “YOU can’t claim to know Buhari more than Danjuma does.
YOU can’t claim to know Danjuma more than Buhari does.
YOU can’t lecture Buhari and Danjuma about WAR and PEACE.
Buhari has heard Danjuma’s Radio message. And I believe he has decode the message.
THE NATION is tip toeing through a minefield; The two Generals are experienced to know better that its fate lies in every step.”
