2 Min Read

Africa’s richest man, Alike Dangote has said he would like to acquire the English Premier League side Arsenal in the nearest future.

The President of Dangote Group revealed this in an interview on Bloomberg TV, saying that he could make a move as early as 2021.

However, the billionaire businessman noted that he would like to complete his ongoing projects before considering buying the North London club.

He is presently constructing an ultramodern petrochemical refinery in Lekki, Lagos.

On efforts to acquire Arsenal, the billionaire businessman said, “It is a team that, yes, I would like to buy someday, but what I keep saying is we have $20bn worth of projects and that’s what I really want to concentrate on.

“I’m trying to finish building the company and then after we finish, maybe sometime in 2021 we can.

“I’m not buying Arsenal right now; I’m buying Arsenal when I finish all these projects because I’m trying to take the company to the next level.”

Owned by American billionaire Stan Kroenke, Arsenal has a current market value of $993 million, according to Statistica.

Dangote is worth $10 billion and is the world’s 136th richest person, according to Forbes. He first revealed his desire to acquire Arsenal in 2015.
