The Dangote Foundation on Saturday presented to the management of Murtala Muhammed Specialists’ Hospital, Kano, N200 million worth of health projects it established in the hospital.some projects it executed at the cost of N200 million in Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano.
NAN reports that the projects are two expanded ultra modern maternity laboratories, maternity blood bank, post maternity ward, Eclampsia ward, theatre and laboratory, as well as six other renovated wards with their facilities.
Speaking at the occasion, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, represented by his daughter, Hajiya Fatima Dangote, said the Foundation was established to support the needy as part of its social responsibility in the country.
She said at the moment the foundation was executing various projects in Kano state and other parts of the country.
She assured that the Foundation would continue to execute similar projects with a view to improving healthcare delivery service across the country.
In his remark at the ocassion, Kano state Commissioner for Health, Dr Kabiru Getso, said the Dangote Foundation was executing other intervention projects in the hospital worth over N7 billion, which would go along way in strengthening healthcare delivery in the state.
Getso said the hospital, established about 92 years ago, had undergone transformation following the commitment of the present administration under the leadership of Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje.
“Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital is the biggest facility in Africa; the maternity ward alone records no fewer than 2, 000 deliveries monthly,” he said.
The state governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, represented by his Deputy, Prof Hafiz Abubakar, commended the Foundation for its immense contribution, particularly to the development of health sector in the country.
“Before your emergence, we could only see international support. We urged you to continue with the good work,” he said.
He then called on other wealthy individuals to emulate Dangote with a view to supporting the less privileged members in the society. (NAN)
