What Daily Trust Artist said about Hanan Buhari’s wedding cartoon

2 Min Read

Mustapha Bulama, Daily Trust Artist has reacted to the criticism that followed his depiction of the wedding of President Buhari’s daughter, Hanan.

The Herald earlier reported that Mustapha Bulama created cartoon of Aisha Buhari showing a photo of her newly wedded daughter to poverty-stricken Nigerians.

The cartoon attracted a comment from Aisha Buhari’s aide who said it was unfair of Bulama to describe the First Lady in that manner.

According to him, the First Lady who was sensitive to the plight of Nigerians, deliberately celebrated her daughter’s wedding “low-key”.

Reacting to the comment, Bulama said he meant no harm to the First family as he was only trying to attract the attention of the government to the poor masses.

Bulama Mustapha made this known during an interview with BBC.

He said: “I mean no harm for the marriage of Hanan Buhari. I was only doing my work. In the cartoon, l was just trying to show the experience of Nigerians currently.

“This is the first time I will get reaction from such high place to my work. It shows that those in power actually see and listen to us. I hope we continue to inspire them to make life easier for the people.”
