In the aftermath of the 66th Grammys, where Nigerian artists, including Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Davido, Asake, and Olamide, faced disappointment in the Best African Music Performance category, controversial Nigerian media personality Daddy Freeze, aka Ifedayo Olarinde, has weighed in on the controversy.
Tyla, the South African singer, emerged as the sole non-Nigerian nominee in the category and clinched the award with her song ‘Water,’ leaving some Nigerian music fans disgruntled and questioning the Recording Academy’s decision.
However, Daddy Freeze has come forward to defend Tyla’s Grammy win, asserting that it was a well-deserved victory. During a recent Instagram live session with fans, he expressed his opinion, stating, “Tyla’s Grammy win over Nigerian artists was not ojoro. I don’t see the ojoro. I’m struggling to see the ojoro.”
The media personality went on to explain his perspective, emphasizing the global impact of Tyla’s ‘Water.’ He pointed out that, in his opinion, the song was slightly more significant on a global scale, citing its massive presence on TikTok as one of the contributing factors to its success.
