Hameed Ali, Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service has disclosed the commission seized $8.6 million cash from Muritala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos state.
The customs boss said the cash which was concealed inside a bus owned by Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) was intercepted by vigilant officers.
According to him, the owner of the money had plans to smuggle the cash out of the country without undergoing proper security checks.
It is not uncommon for travellers to bypass security with smuggled goods while avoiding security protocol at the international airport.

The Customs Comptroller-General also made reference to a similar incident that ensured the seizure of 9,504.1 kilograms of pangolin scales which is valued at N10.2bn according to a report by Tribune.
