A suspected cultist, Nwali Kingslep, 32, has been remanded in prison for torturing a new initiate to death on July 10 at Ekeugwu-Azuinyaba Secondary school, Azuinyaba, Ishielu Local Government area.

A magistrate court ordered that Kingsley be remanded at a correctional facility in Eboni, for torturing Nwafor Johnson to death during a cult initiation. The corpse of the victim was thrown in a river thereafter and efforts to recover the body has proved abortive so far.

The suspected cultist alongside a host of others still at large also tortured another victim, Chigbo Ugbala with sticks and machetes. Ugbala managed to escape by running away from the initiation ground during the incident.

Kingsley was arraigned before Mrs. Nnena Onuoha of the magistrate court on four counts of murder, conspiracy, cultism and unlawful possession of firearms.

According to Police Prosecutor, ASP Eze Nnabuaku, the offences are punishable under sections 516A (a), 319 (1) and 335 of the Criminal Code Cap. 33 vol.1, Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria.

Kingsley who did not have representation during his arraignment pleaded for mercy saying he was lured into cultism by his friends.

The judge said however that the magistrate court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter. She thereafter ordered that the suspect be remanded in a correctional facility while the case file is transferred to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. She further adjourned the case till Friday, August 7. 2020.
