Speaker, Osun House of Assembly, Mr Timothy Owoeye, wants the police to investigate an audio recording in circulation alleging his involvement and cover-up of cult activities in Ilesa, Osun State.
He wrote a petition to Osun Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, on Saturday alleging that the audio recording was authored by a police officer.
He stated that the officer also named Olokode and the traditional ruler of Ilesa, the Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland as co-accomplices.
Owoeye stated in the petition that the unidentified police officer defamed him by alleging that he reached out to top police hierarchy in the state to set a suspected serial killer and cultist free.

He added that the said audio recording had become a source of concern for Owoeye’s family, loved ones and political associates.
The speaker also stated that he had worked and lived in Ilesa all his life contributing his quota to the development of the town.
“I am a proud Ijesa man who loves my community and its inhabitants so dearly.
“I have made so many efforts both overtly and covertly ever since cult clashes began in Ilesa to make sure the town is a peaceful abode for all and sundry.
“Noteworthy is my commitment and support to the Nigeria Police Committee against Cultism during its outreaches to Ijesa land.
“May I at this point urge you to urgently investigate the audio which is capable of lowering people’s confidence in me.
“It is also important considering the fact that your name (Commissioner of Police) was mentioned and that of our revered traditional leader (Owa Obokun).
“The said officer in the audio also disparaged Owa Obokun and the stool of his forebears.
“He alluded to being part of a recent security meeting and as well confirmed that he is a security official,’’ Owoeye stated in the petition. (NAN)
