The Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, has extended a promise of compensation to popular singer Mayorkun for the loss of his valuable items during the 2023 Calabar Carnival. Mayorkun had earlier expressed his dissatisfaction after losing jewellery worth millions of naira while performing at the event, vowing not to return to Calabar for future performances.
The situation took an unexpected turn when fellow artist Iyanya announced the recovery of one of Mayorkun’s stolen diamond chains, providing a glimmer of hope amid the unfortunate incident.
In a recent update, Mayorkun took to his official X to share that he had met with Governor Otu, who reassured him of compensation for the lost valuables. The singer expressed gratitude to the Governor, acknowledging the hospitable nature of the people of Calabar as emphasized by Governor Otu.
“Just met with the Governor of Cross River State, H.E Prince Bassey Otu. He assured me that Calabar people remain very hospitable, and he has also stressed that I will be compensated for my valuables lost,” Mayorkun shared.
While the singer appreciates the Governor’s commitment to addressing the situation, he mentioned that he is still in search of a pendant that holds sentimental value for him.
