COVID-19: YSUTH Introduces New Measures to Check the Spread

The Yobe State University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH) on Wednesday introduced measures to control further spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The new control measures are contained in a statement signed by Mrs Hadiza Musa, the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, in Damaturu.

“Sequel to the spreading of Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in some States in Nigeria, the hospital management has approved some measures to contain and control further spread of the disease.

”Visiting of patients by their relations is suspended until further notice; only one relation to a patient will be allowed to stay within the wards.

”Where necessary, only one person will be allowed to accompany or escort a patient to outpatient clinics and other service points in order to avoid overcrowding.

”All doctors shall expeditiously see patients avoid overcrowding at the waiting areas.

”Similarly, laboratory, radiologic, pharmaceutical and other services shall be speedily rendered, all elective surgeries and admissions in that regards have been suspended.

”Only emergency surgical procedures are allowed,” she said.

Musa said that stable patients in the clinics would be given long appointments (at least three months as the conditions may warrant), while patients on admission would be expeditiously managed and discharged as soon as possible.

She said that all staff with direct contact with patients had been advised to observe universal preventive measures such as hand washing, use of gloves and face masks.

The spokesperson said that in addition, only YSUTH staff would be allowed to perform Jummah (Friday congregation) prayers in the hospital mosque.

She said that the measures would take effect immediately and enjoined strict adherence.
