A middle-aged female teacher in Ughelli North LGA of Delta State has died after hearing news of her husband’s COVID-19 positive test result.
The incident which occurred on Monday reportedly left the whole neighborhood in panic.
The victim, who has not been identified, was said to be a teacher in one of the government-owned schools in the council.
She was said to have been battling high blood pressure for years and might have slumped from the shock of the news.
A neighbour of the deceased confirmed the news, saying that the victim has been deposited in a morgue and her children placed on self-isolation.
“We were at home when we heard screams from their compound. Upon our enquiry, we were told that she slumped and was confirmed dead after receiving news of her husband testing positive to COVID-19.” Vanguard quoted the neighbour as saying on Wednesday.
An official in Ughelli North council stated that officials of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) havw begun contact tracing while the council administration has already embarked on strictly enforcing the mandatory use of face mask and social distancing.
The Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, and his wife, Edith, have also tested positive for COVID-19.
