2 Min Read

Residents of Ile-Ife, Osun State, have protested the failure of a group to fulfil it’s promise to donate food items to residents amidst coronavirus.

The protesters staged a peaceful protest at the premise of Crown FM, Eleyele, a private radio Station where the public announcement regarding the donation was aired.

The radio station’s general manager, Israel Ogunlade, disclosed that the protesters alleged that he gave false information regarding the plan of a group to distribute food items to them in order to mitigated the effect of the restriction on movement imposed by the government.

In his defense, Ogunlade explained that “a group, had announced through my station that, it would distribute food to residents today.

“Unfortunately when those handling the distribution brought the food to where people had been told to assemble, they were overwhelmed by the numbers of the residents. What they had could barely go round.”

“That was what led to protest. They were shouting and everything was in the state of disorderliness before the police arrived.”
