Covid-19: No case recorded in Niger – Sidi

The Niger Government has described the report being circulated in the social media that the state has recorded one suspected victim of Coronavirus as beseless and unfounded.

The State’s Commissioner for Health,  Dr Maku Sidi, made this known in telephone interview with News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) in Minna on Tuesday.
Sidi said the purported post on social media by an unidentified person, who claim that he has visited his sister in Lagos and contracted the disease are some of the negative effect of such platform.
The commissioner, therefore, advised residents to ignore such unwarranted rumours and fake news.
According to him, the person that claimed he had visited his friends and associates at Paiko and Munya Local Government Areas after returning from Lagos state was part of social media gimmicks to create fears on the minds of the  people.
Sidi said that the proactive measures put in place lwould go a long way in tackling the spread of the pandemic, even  though no case has been recorded in the state.
” We are doing everything humanly possible to sensitise residents on preventive measures, and advised residents not to panic as the state government is at present on top of the matter,” he said.
Sidi appealed to people of the to desist from spreading fake news, especially at this trying moment and continue to abide by advice of health experts to contain the virus.
