COVID-19: Musharak to Fumigate Motor Parks, Abattoirs, Others Nationwide

Musharak Esteem Nigeria (a fumigation outfit) has concluded plans to commence fumigation and decontamination of motor parks, abattoirs and commercial vehicles nationwide.

Musharak Esteem Head of Administration Department, Mr Patrick Ukoyonoh, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja.

Ukoyonoh said the company was rendering these services free of charge as part of its corporate social responsibility to complement government efforts in curbing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

NAN recalled that Musharak Esteem recently conducted fumigation and decontamination of all police schools nationwide, the exercise started from POWA International School at Area 11 Garki, Abuja.

“There is need to fumigate and decontaminate these sensitive places especially commercial vehicles, abattoirs, and newly built structures before using them to observe the COVID-19 protocols,’’ he said.

Okoyonoh said decontamination of commercial vehicles nationwide would prevent further spread of coronavirus.

He added that it would prevent future lockdown of interstate movement.

“I want to add that there are lots of emphasis on fumigation; we are also particularly interested in newly completed buildings that need to be fumigated, decontaminated and cleaned thoroughly before commissioning.

“We believe that we can make an impact in curbing the spread of COVID-19 if commercial vehicles are decontaminated as they move across state boundaries because most of them are engaged in interstate movement.

“They carry dozens of passengers and this may spread ailments across state boundaries; during the last lockdown, there was ban on interstate movement but this fumigation will help to avoid another ban.’’

Ukoyonoh said the company would collaborate with chairmen of national union of various motor parks and the management of abattoirs within the FCT and across the country to make the exercise a big success.

“The company has made an arrangement with the management of abattoirs to cooperate with the fumigation team to decontaminate their places of business.

“The exercise will be conducted at night to ensure it does not affect their business activities during normal working hours.

“When it is time for people to resume their normal activities at the abattoirs, the effects of the chemicals used would have reduced or gone, so people can resume their businesses safely,” he said.

Ukoyonoh advised the Federal Government to make a law that all completed apartments, abattoirs and commercial vehicles should be fumigated and decontaminated often for a healthier society.

He also said that the company would intervene in indiscriminate disposal of medical waste by hospitals, pharmacies and diagnostic centres in Nigeria.

According to him, indiscriminate disposal of medical waste are highly infectious and pose great dangers to the health of Nigerians.

Ukoyonoh, therefore, advised stakeholders in the health sector to seek for the services of professionals for proper disposal of medical waste.
