The Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has appointed as a COVID-19 Response Ambassador a father who rejected his son for sneaking into the state in contravention of government directive.
The state government made the appointment known in a tweet on Thursday.
A video of the man identified simply as Mr. Adeoye telling his Lagos-returnee son off for flouting his directive to state back in the commercial nerve centre of the country went viral recently.
In the video, the retired road safety official told his disobedient son that he would not be allowed into his house despite assurances from health officials.
He could be seen telling his son that since Lagos remained the epicentre of COVID-19 in Nigeria, he should have stayed back instead of putting his family at risk by returning to Ekiti state against advice.

The state government said it appointed Mr. Adeoye as COVID-19 Response Ambassador as his kind of self-discipline, selflessness, and sense of collective responsibility was what Ekiti State and Nigeria needed desperately today to progress.

Governor Fayemi said, “Today, I appointed Mr. Adeoye, father of the young man who sneaked into Ekiti state, as a COVID-19 Response Ambassador in Ekiti State. I am proud of Mr Adeoye as a principled Ekiti man and I salute his courage in helping us keep Ekiti safe.
“Mr. Adeoye will help to propagate the message as a member of the COVID-19 Task Force @Ekiti_COVID19 in the State”.
In the same vein, the state government has announced the suspension of Sola Durodola, a member of the COVID-19 Task Force, who allegedly shot the video.
It said Durodola’s action smirked of incompetence and high-handedness.
Some social media users had accused Durodola of shooting the video to embarrass Mr. Adeoye.
