The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) on Tuesday distributed palliatives to eight communities in Kaduna to cushion the effect of lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the communities which benefited from the donation included Down quarters, Makera, Kakuri Hausa, Kakuri Gwari, Barnawa, Barnawa low cost, Television and Rumi New Extension.
Items distributed to the communities include 1000 tubers of yam, 70 bags of 25kg rice, 60 cartons of Indomie noodles, face masks and hand sanitisers.
The Director General of DICON, Maj.-Gen. Victor Ezugwu, at the presentation of the palliatives to the communities, said it was to cushion the effect of the lockdown.
Ezugwu said the Federal Government through the Minister of Defence has asked the corporation to reach out to the communities that are hosts to the military.
“So DICON is supporting the Kakuri communities by providing palliatives to them to cushion the effect of COVID-19 lockdown.
“We are also here to appreciate those communities that have been host to DICON for the past 56 years,” he said.
Ezugwu appealed to wealthy individuals and institutions to contribute their quota to the service of humanity.
He called on the communities to observe the protocol against the spread of Coronavirus and support government efforts towards that.
Alhaji Shehu Tijjani, the District Head of Makera, which the communities fall under, commended DICON for the gesture.
Tijjani said that the palliatives would go a long way to cushion the effect of the lockdown occasioned by the Coronavirus pandemic.
He assured that the palliatives would reach the people it was meant for and would be shared equitably.
The district head also pledged the support of the communities to DICON to to achieve its objectives.
NAN reports that DICON also conducted awareness campaign on Coronavirus and Lassa Fever in the communities during the presentation of the palliatives.
