Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Thursday struck out charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition preferred against suspended Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
This followed an oral application made by Mohammed Abubakar, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the Federal Ministry of Justice withdrawing the charges on Tuesday.
Praying the court to grant the application, Abubakar had said that the application was informed by emerging facts that needed further investigations.
However, counsel to Emefiele, Joseph Daudu (SAN) opposed the application.
The senior lawyer argued that the court should not entertain the application as the Federal Government was in disobedience of the order of the court granting his client bail.
Meanwhile, the scheduled arraignment of Emefiele on a fresh 20-count charge was, also on Thursday, stalled at the FCT High Court sitting at Maitama
This followed the absence of one of the defendants in the case.
Justice Muazu adjourned the case till August 23.
