A High court sitting in Owerri, Imo state has reversed the decision of lawmakers in the impeachment of the Deputy Governor of the state, Eze Madumere.
According to the court, the reason for the reversal was that the impeachment didn’t follow due process
Madumere had been impeached on the 30th of July by 19 members of the state assembly on grounds of being absent for a period of three months and being absent from executive meetings.

According to Channels TV, there were also allegations of wrongdoings while in the United States and absence from meetings with governor Rochas Okorocha.
There had been speculation that the real reason the Deputy Governor was in the crosshairs of the State House of Assembly was due to a difference of opinion with Governor Okorocha.
The beef between the Governor and the Deputy Governor was allegedly over who was to be the successor to Okorocha, while Madumere wants to run himself, Okorocha is said to favour his son-in-law in the position of Governor.
With the ruling of the High Court, it means that Madumere will retain his role as second-in-command in Imo state.
The court announced that the process of impeaching him was illegal and therefore was null and void.
