An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Friday, remanded a 35-year-old man, Tochukwu Chukwu in prison for allegedly stabbing his fiancé to death on grounds of infidelity.
Chukwu, a spare parts dealer at Ladipo area of Lagos, whose plea was not taken, appeared on one-charge of murder.
The prosecutor, Insp Cousin Adams, told the court that Chukwu committed the offence on May 21, at No. 32, Balogun St., Oshodi, Lagos.
Adams said the accused stabbed his fiancée, Joy, 23, with a knife on her neck and back for alleged infidelity.
He added that the accused hid the corpse in a large container in the middle of the night, but he was caught while attempting to dispose it of.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offence contravened Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribes a death sentence on conviction.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr A.O. Komolafe, remanded the accused at the Ikoyi Prisons, pending an outcome of legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Komolafe adjourned the case until July 2 for mention. (NAN)
