A 36 years old man, Mathias Olaiya, was on Thursday remanded in prison custody by a Federal High Court in Lagos, over charges of illicit drug deal.
Olaiya a Carpenter, is charged by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), on one-count charge bordering on the offence.
He had no legal representative, and had pleaded guilty to the charge.
After his plea, the Prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, prayed the court for a remand of the accused in custody, while he sought a date for review of facts.
Consequently, the trial judge, Justice Rabiu Shagari, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody and fixed Jan. 6 for a review of facts.
In the charge, the prosecutor had told the court that the accused was arrested on July 29, along the Lagos-Badagry express road, for having been in possession of 400g of Cannabis Sativa alias hemp.
The prosecutor said the narcotics were seized from the accused who was reported to be a dealer in hemp, and who also distributed same to his customers.
He said that the accused was accordingly arrested and charged.
The offence is said to have contravened the Provisions of Sections 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30 Laws of the Federation, 2004.
The NDLEA Act provides for life imprisonment for the offence of drug trafficking. (NAN)
