Court Remands 3 Suspects In Police Custody Over Alleged Stealing

2 Min Read

Magistrate Ibrahim Mohammed of an Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered the remand of three suspects in police custody for allegedly stealing goods worth N6 million.

The suspects are Monshood Jimoh, Ayo Sikiru and Fatimah Shuaib.

The police arraigned the suspects on charges bordering on shop breaking, theft, receiving stolen properties and trespass.

The magistrate thereafter adjourned the matter till April 29 for further mention.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp. Nasiru Yusuf, told the court that Jimoh and Sikiru broke into about five shops at Fate roundabout area of Ilorin and carted away several goods, including clothes, shoes, handbags, generator set, PlayStation 4 Game and some other valuable items, all valued at N6 million.

Yusuf said that the duo were given a hot chase by neighbours and eventually apprehended while trying to make an escape on a BAJAJ motorcycle with registration number ABG 589, which was later recovered.

He said that the investigation conducted revealed both suspects confessed to the crime and that some of the stolen goods were given to the third defendant (Fatimah Shuaib), who was a regular receiver of their stolen items.

However, the first and second defendants pleaded guilty to the charges against them, while the third defendant (Fatimah) claimed that Sikiru only dropped the clothes with her daughter, but didn’t meet her at home.

The prosecutor objected to the summary trial of the first and second defendants, saying that there are other goods that were yet to be recovered.

He, therefore, urged the court to remand the defendants in police custody for further investigation. (NAN)
