Court judgement: Machina has thwarted Ahmad Lawan’s machinations – Kperogi

A US-based Nigerian professor, Dr Farooq Kperogi, has said that with Wednesday’s court judgement affirming his election as the Yobe North senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bashir Machina has thwarted Senate President, Ahmad Lawan’s “machinations” against him.

The Federal High Court sitting in Damaturu ordered the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Machina as the authentic candidate for the senatorial district in the 2023 general election.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Fadima Murtala Aminu, nullified a primary election conducted on June 9, 2022, which produced Lawan.

Reacting to the judgement, Kperogi, who is a Professor of Journalism and Emerging Media at Kennesaw State University, Georgia, United States, said INEC would be Machina’s greatest hurdle going into the 2023 polls.

“With the federal court judgement in Yobe today recognizing him as APC’s legitimate candidate for the Yobe North Senatorial District, Bashir Machina has thwarted Ahmed Lawan’s machinations against him.

“But Machina’s fiercest foe isn’t Lawan; it’s INEC. Until Machina overcomes INEC’s Machiavellian machinations against him, it’s not yet over,” Fani-Kayode wrote on Facebook.
