A Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan on Thursday, dissolved a 12-year-old marriage between Mr Philip Folarin and his wife Yetunde, over childlessness and lack of care.
The President of the Court, Chief Ademola Odunade, said:” in the interest of peace, the two parties are no longer husband and wife.
”Peace is essential for any marriage to succeed,” he held.
Yetunde, an Ibadan-based hairdresser, had prayed the court to dissolve the marriage because her husband had abandoned her due to her inability to conceive.
“Since I have been unable to bear a child for Philip, he has decided to treat me with disdain and abandonment.
“I no longer have rest of mind since 2007 because he doesn’t bother about me or how I can overcome the infertility.
“In fact, Philip usually makes me sad through his painful utterances to me and my parents over my childlessness, Yetunde, a resident of Yemetu area in Ibadan, said.
The respondent consented to the divorce and the allegations leveled against him.
Philip, a civil servant and a resident of Alarere area in Ibadan, contended that his wife was wayward.
“Yetunde usually associate with women of suspicious character when we were living together, that was probably the reason she couldn’t get pregnant.
“She has since 2013 packed all her belongings from my apartment,” Philip said. (NAN)
