The Supreme Court of Nigeria has dismissed the appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate in the last Enugu State governorship election, Uche Nnaji, challenging the victory of Governor Peter Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Herald reports that the judgement solidifies Peter Mbah as the rightful winner of the election.
The five-member panel of the apex court rendered its judgment on Friday, emphasizing that the legal team of the APC and Mr. Nnaji had submitted an invalid brief of argument. Furthermore, the appellants failed to provide convincing reasons for the court to consider their appeal, which hinged on their invalid brief.
Justice Tijani Abubakar, delivering the lead judgment, pointed out that the invalidity of the appellants’ brief had a direct impact on the appeal itself. As a result, the Supreme Court proceeded to dismiss both the brief and the appeal brought forth by the APC and Mr. Nnaji.
