The National Industrial Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned a N500m suit against Loyola Jesuit College till April 24.

At the resumed hearing of the suit filed by Mrs Emily Amedu, the former school’s seamstress, the defendant’s counsel prayed for extension of time to file his statement of defence.

The motion was granted by the judge, Justice Ebeye Isele and the case was subsequently adjourned till April 24.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the seamstress had dragged the school to court over alleged injuries sustained while performing tasks for the school.

The suit indicated that Amedu was asked to get uniforms from a store when she had a fall which affected her spinal cord.

Efforts to make the school incur the expenses for her numerous surgeries had failed, which prompted the suit.

Among her reliefs from the court was to prevail on her employer to be liable for the injury and the money she had spent for medical bills.

The seamstress, while claiming N500m as damages, also sought effective treatment from the school for her deteriorating health. She also seeks proper retirement from her employer with all attending allowances and accrued benefits. (NAN)
