Corps Member sinks N 1.2m for Community in Sokoto

Miss Okonkwo Ifeoma,  a 25-year-old Batch ” A” 2019/2020 Corps member serving in Sokoto, has sunk a borehole worth N1.2 million for the Kauran Mallam Garba Community, Arkilla District, Wamakko Local Government area of the state.

Ifeoma, who hailed from Anambra State, is a Food Science and Technology Graduate of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University , Awka.

Inaugurating the project, on Thursday in Sokoto, the State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mannir Dan-Iya, applauded the Corps Member for successfully executing the life-Impacting project for the community .

Represented by the acting Permanent Secretary, Water Resources Ministry , Hajiya Aishatu Gatawa, Dan-Iya said, ” what she did deserves commendation and emulation.”

Also speaking, the State NYSC Coordinator, Mr Phillip Enabule, Represented by the Community Development Services Coordinator, Mr Thompson Ejibu, noted that the invaluable project forms part of the four cardinal programmes of the scheme.

Enabule appealed to wealthy individuals and communities to imbibe the culture of assisting Corps members, to execute similar projects in their various communities.

The District Head of Kaurar Mallam Garba, Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji, lauded Ifeoma for the unparalleled gesture.

Magaji promised to routinely maintain the borehole, as well as jealously guard it from vandalism.

On her decision for the project, Ifeoma she said it was part of her undying desire to impact on the lives of the people of the community, as well as put smiles on their faces .

According to her, the choice of the community was informed by the chronic dearth of a reliable source of potable water in the area.

She said, “I am also passionate Advocate of the Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs). That was even why I stayed back in Sokoto State, to further assist in uplifting the living standard of the people.”

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that, Ifeoma had also hitherto executed several projects aimed at positively impacting on the lives of the people .

They included an Independence Day Outreach which targeted physically -challenged persons, as well as, “Keep the Girls in Schools” Campaign, where she trained Secondary School Girls on how to use renewable sanitary pads.
