The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos says it has commenced distribution of hand sanitisers across motor parks across the state to halt the spread of coronavirus.

Chairman of the union in the state, Musiliu Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo disclosed this on Friday in his Oko Oba office when officials of the state ministry of health paid him a courtesy visit.

He said this became necessary as the union’s members interact with a lot of people in the course of their daily activities.

MC Oluomo disclosed that NURTW would also sensitise members of the union about the deadly virus soon.

Furthermore, he urged commercial drivers to maintain personal hygiene to stay safe during this period.

“In a bid to stop the ravaging Coronavirus, the union is contributing its quota by making hand sanitizers available at our parks.

“As we are aware, our members interact with different kinds of people at motor parks and this makes them vulnerable to infectious disease.

“We will also be holding an enlightenment campaign amongst our members to create awareness about the virus,” MC Oluomo said.

The Herald recalls that Commissioner of Health in Lagos, Prof. Akin Abayomi, said on Thursday that three new suspected cases had been reported in the state.

He said the patients were being quarantined at the Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba pending conclusive tests.

“Their samples have been taken and results are being expected,” he said. “The suspected patients came to Nigeria from France, England and China.”
