So Far On Coronavirus; 3,044 Dead, 89,006 Infected Across 68 Countries

The novel disease, coronavirus, Covid-19 has infected at least 89,006 in 68 countries and territories across the world.

 

According to reports by APF, coronavirus has affected a total of 89,006 people and occasioned 3,044 deaths as at 0900 GMT on Monday. The number of new coronavirus cases that have occurred since 1700 GMT Sunday is 749 people.

 

 

In China but excluding Hong Kong and Macau where the epidemic emerged at the end of December, a total number of 80,026 cases have been recorded with 2,912 deaths. 202 new infections and 42 deaths have also been recorded between 1700 GMT Sunday and 0900 GMT Monday. While in places outside of China, there have been a total of 8,980 cases including 131 deaths.

 

 

“The most affected countries after China are South Korea (4,212 cases, 22 deaths, 476 new cases), Italy (1,694 cases, 34 deaths, no new cases), Iran (978 cases, 54 deaths, no new cases) and Japan (239 cases, 12 deaths)” the PUNCH reported.

 

 

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the recent confirmation of coronavirus outbreak in Lagos state. Speaking on the development, President Buhari on Sunday, March 1, warned against unnecessary panic over Covid-19 infection.

The president in a statement by his media aide, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja, commended the federal ministry of health and other relevant agencies and governments of Lagos and Ogun states.

 

 

He, however, urged citizens to strictly observe the advisories disseminated by the Ministry of Health, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and the World Health Organisation (WHO) on the best way to prevent the infection.
