'Continuous Detention Of IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu Makes No Sense' – Sowore

Quit fighting the battles that former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration started, Sowore tells Tinubu

Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore has opined that the continuous detention of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu makes no sense, The Herald reports.

Speaking in an interview on Arise Television, Sowore noted that it was time to let reasoning prevail. Added that if there is no justice in Nigeria, it would be impossible to have peace and progress in the country.

He further tasked the Bola Tinubu-led administration to quit fighting the battles that former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration started.

He further tasked them with apologising to the people who were victims of the decisions and policies of the last government.

In his own words, “Let me use this opportunity to ask for the release of Nnamdi Kanu. It’s time that reasoning prevail over the issue of Nnamdi Kanu. This whole thing was unnecessary.

“If you’re not going to continue with Buhari’s policies of ruining the economy, destroying the dollars, don’t continue with his repressive policies. It’s time to apologize to all the persons that Buhari touched in the last eight years of his administration and prosecute all the officials used in committing atrocities under his government.”

The Herald recalls that the Nnamdi Kanu has been in detention since June 2021 after the regime of former President Buhari, in collaboration with the Kenyan government, kidnapped him in Kenya and brought him back to Nigeria in violation of national and international laws and treaties.

Nnamdi Kanu had fled to Kenya after the Nigerian military raided his country home in Afaraukwu Ibeku Umuahia, Abia State, in 2017.

Also speaking on Arise Television, Sowore noted that he deserves an apology from the Nigerian government for his unlawful arrest and detention in 2019.
