A contemporary dance production “We Almost Forgot’’ by Choreographer Mr Qudus Onikeku is set to be premiered in Abuja on June 26.

This is contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by Ms Lea Granados, Cultural Programme Officer of the Institute of France in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Onikeku is a graduate of National School of Circus Arts, France for almost a decade.

He had maintained his presence in the country’s choreographic scene and had won awards in that area.

According to the statement, the production has also been scheduled to hold in Berlin on June 17, Lagos on June 24, and in Paris on Nov. 3.

It said that the dance would feature six dancers from Nigeria, Gabon, Morocco, Algeria, Madagascar, France and one actress of varied background, identities.

“Through the use of high energy movements, story-telling, singing and music, the performance aims at questioning the past, present and body memory.

“The idea is to make a fiction of witness accounts of stories of individuals who have witnessed wars and crises, and to evoke the capacity of our bodies to also keep the memory of traumas.”

It added that the audience would have the opportunity to interact with the artists and express their thoughts on contemporary dance and its progression in Nigeria as well as the world.

The statement said that the production fell within a wider project on dance initiated on May 14.

It said the production was done after an open air audition on “Dancing Cities’’ in Abuja where 16 young dancers and choreographers were selected for a master class with Onikeku, leading to a performance.
