Confirmed Coronavirus Patients Protest on the Streets of Gombe

Several confirmed Coronavirus patients in the Gombe state COVID-19 Isolation centre hit the streets to protest hunger and neglect by government officials.

The Patients which were quarantined at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe protested at the hospital premises and destroyed some medical equipments in the medical facility.

According to a report by theCable, the protesters complained of neglect and ill treatment before being pacified by several Hospital staff who promised an improvement in their welfare.

Another group of infected Coronavirus patients quarantined at the Kwadon isolation Centre, Yamaltu Deba Local Government area also hit the streets in protest, accompanied by residents of the town.

The second group of infected persons also complained of neglect and blocked the Gombe/Biu road chanting anti-government slogans.

Reports from eye witnesses at the protest said while some of the protesters went back to the Isolation centre after the incident, others decided to abscond.

Speaking to a television crew from TVC, some of the protesters alleged that they have been abandoned at the isolation centre by officials of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) since testing positive for the Coronavirus three days back.

They also alleged that they were not given any drugs or treated for the coronavirus.

One of the patients who spoke in Hausa said;

“Look at this place, this is the hospital where they kept us. They said we have coronavirus. Look at us? Do we look sick.? Do you you see any sign of sickness in us? Look at us very well and see!”

“If this thing (coronavirus) is created by some people for world material things, they will face the judgment of God. In this holy month of Ramadan, they brought us to this kind of place. We that are fasting and those that are not fasting are fed at the same time. It is about 5:00pm and they are just serving us launch. This is not fair! They are infringing on our rights.”

Gombe state currently have 96 confirmed Coronavirus cases.
