Comedienne Facing Charges After Exposing Ex-Husband’s HIV Status On Facebook

2 Min Read

Mai TT a Zimbabwean comedienne, is facing prosecution after revealing the HIV status of her ex-husband on Facebook.

Reports from lawyers indicate that the ex-husband plans to institute both criminal and civil charges against her.

Tawanda Takaendesa, a lawyer, said that Mai TT has no legal protection for what she did. “There is no legal protection here. The ex-husband should approach the police and lodge his complaint.

“It is legally wrong for her to disclose someone’s HIV status on a public forum without evidence, proof or consent of the person she was accusing.

“Under these circumstances, the ex-husband should institute civil proceedings and if he goes a step further, criminal charges.”

Another lawyer who requested anonymity said that Mai TT committed a legal blunder.

“I have dealt with Mai TT and I know that this time, she has lost it. There is no way the law protects her after such an incident.

“Imagine if the guy sues her for peddling falsehood? The guy should just take the legal route because Mai TT has exposed herself. If there was no consent, the guy is on the winning side,” he said.

Mai TT had earlier ranted on Facebook, where she revealed the HIV status of her ex-husband, a revelation which is against the law in Zimbabwe.

After the story went viral and the threat of arrest surfaced, she took to her Facebook page to say that she didn’t regret her action.
