A 32 -year-old cobbler, Ibikunle Adeyemo, charged with assaulting and stealing from an Uber driver, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The defendant, who resides at Isolo, Lagos, was arraigned before Magistrate M.O. Tanimola on three-count charge of conspiracy, assault and stealing.
Adeyemo, however, denied committing the offences and was admitted to a bail of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Tanimola said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Aondohemba Koti, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 30 at Ogunmokun, Mushin, Lagos.
He said that the defendant and two others, still at large, ordered for a ride with Uber vehicle driven by one Mr Obinna Peter for a full day, but refused to pay after the service had been rendered.

“The defendant and others called the complainant to take them to Isolo and after bargaining, they agreed to pay N30,000.
“When the complainant got to their destination and demanded for the money, the defendant and his accomplices beat him to pulp, stole N90,000 from his car and ran away.
“The complainant identified the defendant days after and he was arrested, ” the prosecutor said.
The offences violated Sections 178, 287 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates three years imprisonment for stealing, while Section 411 prescribes two years imprisonment for conspiracy.
The case was adjourned until for July 24 mention. (NAN)
