Following the arrest of some internet fraudsters, otherwise known as ‘Yahoo boys’ by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the club in which the incident allegedly happened has denied any involvement in the incident.
The EFCC had on the early hours of Friday arrested around 12 suspects who were internet fraudsters and recovered as many as 10 luxury vehicles in their raid.
The EFCC commented on this arrest writing about it on their Facebook page.
“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Lagos Zonal Office, in the early hours of Friday, May 11, 2018, arrested over 12 suspected Internet fraudsters in the Ikoyi area of Lagos.
“The EFCC operatives stormed the popular Club 57 on Awolowo Way, Ikoyi, where the suspected Yahoo boys were rounded up following intelligence report.
“However, a total of 10 cars were recovered from the suspects during the raid that lasted about three hours.” the Anti-graft commission said.
The Club, which is located around Awolowo way in the Ikoyi area of Lagos state, is a hot spot for clubbing and late-night revelries.
The EFCC said they acted on an intelligence report.
The club’s management in a bid to dissociate themselves from the incident claimed that the arrest did not take place on their premises.
They said; “With respect to the incidence, Club 57 will like to categorically state that no official of the EFCC or security personnel entered into the club to arrest any of our customers on Thursday, May 10, 2018, or indeed at any other time,”
