Ivan Rakitic has rejoined former club Sevilla from Barcelona on a four-year deal.
According to a statement by the Catalan side, the Andalusian team will pay Barcelona 1.5 million euros plus 9 million in add-ons.
“Barcelona publicly expresses its gratitude to Rakitic for his commitment and dedication and wishes him good luck and success in the future,” the statement read in part.
It further said that a farewell ceremony and press conference would be held on Wednesday to mark the end of Rakitic’s stay at the club where he won 13 trophies in six years.
A breakdown of the trophies the 32-year-old won at the club include 1 Champions League, 4 La Liga, 4 Copa del Rey, 1 Club World Cup, 1 European Super Cup and 2 Spanish Super Cup.
The Swiss-born Croatian joined FC Barcelona from Sevilla in 2014, and wearing number 4 on his back, he quickly became a regular feature of the blaugrana midfield.
During his time at Barcelona, the player became the foreigner with the fourth most appearances ever for Barça, only topped by Lionel Messi, Dani Alves and Javier Mascherano, and has the most appearances of all for a European foreigner.
Versatile, hard-working and an expert reader of the game, he is leaving the club after 310 competitive appearances, scoring 36 goals and giving 36 assists.
The most memorable of all was his goal in the 2015 Champions League Final in Berlin, the first of a 3-1 defeat of Juventus that earned the club the trophy for the fifth time.
Rakitic is leaving after Barcelona’s 2-8 trouncing by Bayern Munich in the UCL quarterfinals last month, a defeat which triggered a melt-down at the club.
