An unnamed Chinese man has undergone surgery at the Zhaoqing First People’s Hospital in Guangdong province of southern China after a live fish got into his rectum through his anus.
The 30-year-old patient had gone to the hospital to complain of abdominal pains.
An X-ray scan showed the presence of a fish in the patient’s rectum, shocking medical personnel.
The Chinese man said the fish slipped into his backside after ‘he sat on it by accident’.
He added that he tried to remove the fish by himself at home but failed.
A video which circulated on social media and local television stations shows the moment medics removed the blue tilapia, which died inside the patient, last Tuesday.
Although reports from local media did not specify the fish’s size, the species usually measures 30-40 centimetres (12-16 inches) long.
